ASHLEY PATERSON

Terrace House, Paddington
Background / Location
The Paddington House is a residential building nestled in the heart of Paddington, Sydney. The project focuses on pushing new boundaries and incorporating sustainable design practices to an existing two-storey dwelling.
Client Brief
The client brief requires an interior that incorporates a clean, modern industrial style scheme and functional, open plan living using raw materials, textures and appropriate lighting. The client expressed their need for natural lighting that will connect all levels into a seamless arrangement of functionality and style. Ensuring BCA requirements were followed, the design consisted of reconstructing the basement level as an open living space and altering the height of the attic to form a suitable guest room. The design of the attic was adjusted to allow for a flat roof skylight installation, ensuring natural illumination filters through all levels to increase visual aesthetics and highlight architectural details.
Concept
The concept behind the Paddington house is to create a seamless blend of old and new. Quality furnishings and deep colour schemes have been carefully selected in order to produce a cohesive and stylish residence. Using metal shades and soft light lumens give the space contrast and visual warmth, highlighting industrial elements and aspects. Exposed brick walls feature throughout all levels, expressing a rich interior full of texture.
